Ayurvedic Treatment for Hair Fall & Hair Loss (Khalitya)

Nourish your roots — reverse hair loss from within with Ayurveda.

Understanding the Condition

Hair is deeply connected to our sense of identity and confidence. Losing it — whether gradually or rapidly — can be distressing. At Aastha Ayurveda, we understand this, and we approach hair loss not as a cosmetic problem but as a signal that something deeper needs attention in the body. Over the past 20 years, we have helped patients with all types of hair loss — from androgenetic alopecia and stress-induced shedding to post- pregnancy hair fall and alopecia areata — using authentic Ayurvedic therapies that address the root cause.

The Ayurvedic Perspective

In Ayurveda, hair is considered a byproduct (Upadhatu) of bone tissue (Asthi Dhatu). Hair fall, known as Khalitya, is primarily a Pitta disorder — excess heat in the body burns the hair follicles and weakens the roots. Vata imbalance causes the scalp to become dry and fragile. Contributing factors include poor digestion, anaemia, hormonal imbalances (thyroid, PCOD), stress, use of harsh chemical products, and nutritional deficiencies — all of which Ayurveda addresses comprehensively.

Common Symptoms

Excessive hair shedding daily (more than 100 strands)

Thinning hair at the crown or temples

        Receding hairline

        Patches of baldness (alopecia areata)

Dry, brittle, or easily breakable hair

        Itchy, flaky, or inflamed scalp

        Premature greying of hair

Hair loss following illness, pregnancy, or periods of high stress

Our Treatment Approach at Aastha Ayurveda

Our treatment focuses on strengthening the hair follicle, nourishing the scalp, correcting nutritional deficiencies, and calming the aggravated Pitta. Internal herbal medicines include Bhringraj, Amla, Brahmi, Ashwagandha, and Narasimha Rasayana — formulations proven over centuries to strengthen hair. External therapies like medicated oil massages and Nasya complete the approach. We also address any underlying causes — such as thyroid imbalance, anaemia, or chronic stress — that may be driving the hair loss.

Panchkarma Therapies Used

Shiro Abhyanga (medicated scalp massage) with Bhringraj, Brahmi, or Mahabhringraj oil

Nasya (nasal oil therapy) to nourish the roots via the nasal pathway — highly effective for hair health

Shirodhara to calm Pitta, reduce stress, and improve scalp circulation

Takradhara (buttermilk flow therapy) for scalp cooling and follicle nourishment

Virechana (purgation) to clear excess Pitta from the body systemically

Diet & Lifestyle Guidance

Favour: amla (Indian gooseberry), sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, leafy greens, lentils, eggs

Avoid: spicy, fried, and sour foods that aggravate Pitta; reduce tea and coffee

Stay well hydrated — dehydration weakens hair texture

Apply warm coconut or sesame oil to the scalp at least twice a week

Practice Anulom Vilom and Kapalbhati Pranayama for improved scalp circulation

Protect hair from direct sun, excessive heat, and harsh chemical shampoos
